Learn how to use the Postsecondary Data Partnership Transfer dashboard to understand the credentials earned by our Hispanic male student cohort before and after they transferred from our institution to a 4-year institution.

In this tutorial, we demonstrate how to use the PDP Transfer dashboard to understand the credentials earned by our Hispanic male student cohort before and after they transferred from our institution to a 4-Year institution.
As a quick reminder, the Transfer dashboard contains a wealth of information like:
• institutional transfer-out rates for up to eight years after a student’s first enrollment at your institution,
• the percentage of transfer-out students who earned a credential prior to transferring,
• the types of institution to which students transferred,
• and the credential earned by those students after they transferred.
Let’s use this dashboard to answer this research question: What credentials did our 2013-14 Hispanic male cohort earn before and after they transferred to a 4-year institution?
As a reminder, the results in this tutorial are only for demonstration purposes.
On the Home Page for the PDP dashboards, one of the Outcomes-Over-Time metrics is the Transfer dashboard. Clicking this icon takes us to the dashboard.
Because we’re interested in a specific student population, we need to apply a few filters.
• First, we’re interested in Hispanic students, so let’s click the “Race/Ethnicity” global filter, deselect “All”, select “Hispanic”, and click “Apply”.
• Next, we’re interested in male students, so let’s click the “Gender” global filter, deselect “All”, select “Male”, and click “Apply”.
• Next, because we’re interested in the outcomes of students who transferred to 4-year institutions, let’s set the “Destination Institution Filter” to “4-Year Institutions”.
• And let’s leave the “Transferred Within” filter to “more than zero to two years.”
Now the dashboard data is filtered to show only results for Hispanic male students who transferred to 4-year institutions within two years of enrolling at our institution.
The lower right stacked bar chart gives us information about the credentials earned by this cohort pre-transfer. Because we’re interested in the 2013-14 cohort, let’s focus on that data.
• First, notice that there are 175 students in that cohort.
• Next, hovering over red section, we find that 15% of that cohort completed an associate degree before transferring out.
• And, looking at more recent cohorts, we see that a higher percentage are now earning associate degrees prior to transferring out.
Now, let’s find the proportion of that cohort who earned a credential after they transferred to 4-year institutions. To answer that question, let’s look at the part-to-whole map.
This map defaults to the most recent reported academic year. We’re interested in the 2013-14 cohort, so let’s apply that filter.
Now the map shows the outcomes of Hispanic male students who entered the institution in the 2013-14 academic year and transferred to 4-year institutions within two years of enrolling at our institution. Of that cohort:
• 44.6% have earned a bachelor’s degree
• 44.0% have not yet earned a credential
• And 10.9% have earned an associate degree.
Using the Transfer dashboard, we learned that 15% of Hispanic male students in our 2013-14 cohort earned an associate degree from our institution prior to transferring to 4-year institutions. We also learned that 56% of that cohort earned an associate or bachelor’s degree after they transferred out.
