StudentTracker for High Schools Success Story: Cristo Rey Network
Cristo Rey Network Gains Actionable Insights into their College Preparation Efforts
StudentTracker for High Schools can give schools the tools they need to close the gap between their mission and its achievement. One good example is the Cristo Rey Network, a consortium of 6,000 schools in 17 states and the District of Columbia. Cristo Rey’s mission is to provide college preparatory education to low-income students with the goal of preparing them for college success.
StudentTracker for High Schools matches high schools’ or high school districts’ graduate records against the enrollment records of over 3,600 colleges and universities, which account for more than 98 percent of total college enrollments in the nation. It matches the data and returns detailed reports that show:
- How many of a school’s graduates are enrolling in college
- Whether they are staying in and completing college
- How long it takes them to earn a college degree
- Where they are going to college
Cristo Rey Network knew that it was doing an excellent job of getting students accepted to college – schools in the network had a 98 percent college acceptance rate. But when they reviewed the StudentTracker for High Schools data, they were shocked.
“StudentTracker showed that there is a group of students who aren’t enrolling immediately after graduation or enrolling at all,” said Chris Broughton, director of postsecondary initiatives for Cristo Rey Network. “That was surprising to us because we measure our mission effectiveness on whether our graduates make it to and through college, yet there is a group that isn’t even going.”
This data led Cristo Rey to make changes designed to boost college enrollment – and to track their success with future graduating classes. The network:
- Implemented a more rigorous college-ready curriculum
- Participated in the Educational Enrichment Initiative, an opt-in academic improvement program
- Enhance college counseling at Cristo Rey Network schools
“StudentTracker empowers all of us — network leaders, school administrators, faculty, and staff — to take greater responsibility for our graduates’ postsecondary success,” said Broughton.
