Undergraduate Enrollment Down 2.5% and Graduate Students Up 3.9%, Compared to Sept. 2019
The National Student Clearinghouse Research Center announced today new data that show undergraduate student enrollment declining 2.5%, while graduate students are up 3.9%, as of September 10. As a result, postsecondary enrollment as a whole is down 1.8%, compared to the same time last year.

The National Student Clearinghouse Research Center announced today that with nearly 7 million students enrolled during Summer 2020, community colleges saw enrollment losses of nearly 6% and for-profits’ enrollment declined by 7% over Summer 2019. Meanwhile, public and private nonprofit four-year colleges saw modest enrollment growth of 3% and 4%, respectively.

Pace of College Enrollment Decline Slowed Nationwide Prior to Covid-19 Impact
Overall postsecondary enrollments decreased 0.5 percent or 83,803 students from spring 2019, but the pace of decline slowed this year, according to the Spring 2020 Current Term Enrollment Estimates report. The report provides spring enrollment declines and increases for each state and the District of Columbia from 2018 to 2020.

Review state-by-state details of the Completing College State Report.New data described in the National Student Clearinghouse Research Center’s Completing College State Report shows a rise in the overall college completion rate in 43 out of the 45 states, for which data are available over the last five cohort years (2009-2013), and a narrowing of the top-to-bottom state completion rate gaps. Only Alabama and New Hampshire saw declines.
